Remedy For Flu: My Shortest Flu Experience Ever

Image
My friend cancelled his lunch appointment with me again. Why? Because he's again stuck in bed, sick with "flu, sore throat and a bit of fever". That incident triggered me to post this story about how I kept my flu trouble short because I chose the right remedy for flu. I have suffered from flu and cold many times over the years.  I would normally recover from my runny nose, fever and sore throat after a couple of weeks. But my cough would linger on and on and on, up to 2 months or more.  I read that long-term consumption of lingzhi (particularly Yung Kien Ganoderma ) and pollen is a great remedy for flu as it’s very effective to enhance one's immune system so that one doesn't fall sick so often. And when one is sick, the recovery rate is much faster. Really? Well. It was put to test during Chinese New Year this year. This is an account of my shortest flu experience that I can ever remember. No More Sinus Problem

Image
My Dad has been suffering from sinus problem for as long as I can remember. It's almost "normal". Since young, I was so used to hear him sniffling every morning and during the day that I don't ask what's wrong anymore. That's just him . Whenever he woke up at night to go toilet, his nose would run and it would be 2 hours before he could fall back to sleep. A slight change of temperature would trigger the sinus. He would get my mum to make a basin of steaming water mixed with salt. Then he would put his head under a huge towel towards the steam from the basin in an effort to clear his nasal passage. It was only a temporary relief. He could never find any solution that is permanent, even from doctors and specialists. About 12 years ago, he started practicing qi gong. He is an incredibly disciplined man. Every day, and I mean Every Single Day, come rain shine holiday or otherwise, he would be up in the wee hours of the morning to practice his qi gong. He claims t...

How Safe Are Your Medicines?

Image
This is an extract of an article written by Dr Amir Farid Ishak. He is a medical specialist who is very much against the current drug-based practice of modern medicine. Instead, he advocates a lifestyle and nutrition-based approach. In general, drugs/medicines do not heal, but only suppress or control the symptoms, and they have many side-effects . For example, people with high blood pressure condition have their blood pressure "under control" as long as they take their medications. The unfortunate news is, even if their blood pressure is normal , they are not healthy, and not cured of their problem. Why? Because if they miss their drugs for a few days, their pressure shoots up again. Of course, this situation is better than if the blood pressure is high and unsuppressed. The same applies to treating diabetes, as medicines only  suppress  blood glucose level. What is a better option? Normalize the blood pressure and blood glucose level through natural methods, as follow...

How Ganoderma Modulates Our Immune System

Image
Do you know that 80% to 90% of diseases in the human body are closely related to our immune system? This article gives you an overall understanding of how the self-defense function of our immune system works and how ganoderma modulates our immune system, including controlling cancerous tumors. Our Immune Cells (also known as Leukocytes or White Blood Cells ) are generally divided into: Phagocytes (including macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils etc) Natural killer cells T cells (Th1 and Th2 cells) B cells, responsible for producing antibodies. Normally there are between 3,500 to 9,000 white blood cells (WBC) in a micro-liter of blood in a healthy person. When WBC count is less than 3,000, the immunity is weak and the body is prone to sickness. When WBC count is over 10,000, the body has an infection and more WBC is produced to eliminate the pathogens. When WBC count is extremely high , the body may be suffering from an auto-immune disease (e.g. asthma, SLE (systemic lupus eryt...

Which is Better - Wild Lingzhi or Cultivated Lingzhi?

Image
Some people say wild Lingzhi is better than cultivated Lingzhi. Is that true? This brings us to the question of what are the criteria to consider in selecting a good quality Lingzhi. There are 4 main points: 1) Species . A good species will have higher quantum of active components and thus ensures greater efficacy when consumed. 2) Growing environment and age . Lingzhi is a highly absorbent plant. Thus, it is important that it is grown in a clean environment that is free from contaminants and pollutants. Further, different species of Lingzhi have different maturity period. It is crucial that the harvest time is made when the effective components are the richest. Hence, the age of the Lingzhi and the timing of harvest is very important. 3) Processing method . Different components in the Lingzhi can only be extracted using different medium and at differing temperatures. A good quality Lingzhi is one that is extracted using multiple medium and differing temperature and is in water sol...

Heartburn: Causes and How to Prevent It

Image
Heartburn is a burning sensation that is felt in the chest and throat, which occurs when the acid from our stomach travels back into the esophagus . The person suffering from heartburn may also experience a sour and acidic taste in the mouth. If you suffer from heartburn / acid reflux more than 2 times a week, this is known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Causes of Acid Reflux 1) Many pregnant women experience acid reflux symptoms due to some of these reasons:- In their 3rd trimester of pregnancy, due to increased levels of hormones that "soften" the ligaments that normally keep the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) tight thereby causing the acid to flow up. The larger uterus during pregnancy causes the organs in the abdomen to be pushed up against the diaphragm, resulting in acid reflux, as the physical integrity of the LES is affected. The extra weight gained during pregnancy around the waist often presses on the abdomen and increases the pressure inside. This ...

Image
Do you cook? What do you use to enhance the flavors or taste of your food? Salt? Oyster sauces? MSG? Gourmet powder is a common type of food flavouring that contains monosodium glutamate (more popularly known as MSG) as its main composition. It is mostly used to enhance the taste of some cuisines, notably Chinese dishes, as well as for preparing broths and sauces. The Impact of Gourmet Powder on Human Body Though MSG has long been classified as a safe food ingredient by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), its use and impact on the human health remains controversial.
